We were back on the road. Last night we enjoyed a lot staying in a tent and partying all night. On the way to Leh we saw a very beautiful monastery from a distance. It looked so prominent and attractive we could not resist. It was the Thikse Monastery. We visited “Thikse Monastery”. It is the largest “Gompa” in Ladakh. Built in the 17th century and restored by the Archeological society of India. Selfie near car park at Thikse Monastery. It was a twelve storey high Buddhist temple made in Tibetan style resembling “Potala Palace” in Lhasa, Tibet. The most famous attraction point was “Maitreya Temple” built in 1970 to remember the visit of the 14th Dalai Lama. A 49 feet high huge statue of Buddha built across two floors of the building.
